i wonder if we're gonna have a moping kazuki in ep 11 or the exact opposite.
he always wears his heart on his sleeves except when it comes to showing sadness. so i wonder if he's going to (try to) act like his usual happy chaotic self, as if nothing's wrong, in order to not break down completely. although rei can call his bullshit from a mile away he doesn't say anything, until kazuki accidentally sees a toy miri left behind, a drawing or the "family" paper and finally loses it.

Chapter 1: Fight or Flee?
Rei sat at the bar, hand trembling as he stared at the photo Kyu had passed him. Never before had a picture of someone deemed worthy of execution made him feel so sick. If he wasn’t careful, he felt like he might pass out right there and then. “Is this a joke?” “I wouldn’t joke about this,” said Kyu pushing his glasses up. “I got that picture last night. I have two weeks to gather information on them.” “You want me to betray them?” There was an uncharacteristic bite to his voice, not unlike a wolf snarling at a stranger getting too close to their pack. “I’m only telling you the facts. In two weeks, I will hand over whatever information I collect.” He turned round, tidying up some glasses. “You know what would happen if I didn’t.” Rei was silent, eyes never moving from the photo of his partner and their daughter. “What shall I do?” “There’s not much but I’m sure you know as well as I do that there is only one way to ensure their safety.”
Gently placing the photo back down, Rei finished the coffee in front of him. “I should get started.” As he slid off the barstool, a memory stick was placed on the bar. “You’ll need this. It’s up to date and there’s not so much as an illegitimate child missed off.” “Why?” “Because I’ve seen how willing they are to stab people in the back. I didn’t want to leave myself without some sort of insurance.” Standing back up, he folded his arms. “Do what you need to. Good luck.”
The way home felt long and the memory stick weighed heavy in his pocket. The Boss had always taken away anything that Rei had cared about. Stray animals he found always seemed to wind up dead, anyone he got friendly with disappeared. And now, he’d gone too far. He didn’t know he could care like this until Kazuki had just appeared in his life; cleaning, organising and decorating the apartment. His work colleague stayed and then simply never left. Then a few years passed and they ended up with Miri who simply never left as well. Not that he wanted either of them to leave. Rei was never taught love but he knew it now.
Those two never let him forget that. Miri. Kazuki.
Rei turned a corner and looked up at the apartment block. Whatever happened, the Boss would never get his hands on them. He swore that now. And if that was the game that the Boss wanted to play… then it would be by the rules that he had taught Rei… and this would be the last time that Rei would ever play this game.
***
Kazuki stretched as he woke up. It was nice to feel well rested for once. No jobs had come their way in a while so he could actually sleep at night. The only difference was for about a week or so Rei had been acting… weird. Or weird for Rei. He’d barely touched his games and been working on something. He’d never seen him so focused on something that didn’t involve a controller and a tv screen.
Flinging the blanket off, Kazuki got up and made his way downstairs to get breakfast ready before he had to get Miri up and take her to daycare. Everything was so quite first thing, not that Kazuki minded. There was nothing wrong with some peace and quiet now and then. He rubbed and hand through his hair as his eyes fell on a couple of notes folded pieces of paper left on the counter. One was addressed to him and Miri, and the other just to him. But he knew that handwriting. Hastily, he opened the one addressed to the both of them.
Dear Kazuki, The Boss has provided me with a job. It’s dangerous. I don’t know if I’ll make it back. In the event that I’m not back by tomorrow morning, take Miri and go into hiding. Do not contact anyone. Sorry, Rei.
Dear Miri, Papa Rei loves you. Remember that. Papa Rei
Kazuki read it again, eyes wide. Bastard! Why hadn’t he mentioned any of this before!? Instead, he just runs off at some godforsaken hour on a suicide mission only leaving a couple of letters!! He snatched up the second letter, furious with his partner in crime for pulling a stunt like this… and then his anger suddenly faded as he looked down.
The second letter wasn’t folded as neatly, almost as if this had been rushed. The ink spelling his name seemed to bleed in one spot, the page slightly warped. Kazuki opened it carefully.
Kazuki I love you Rei
The handwriting was shaky; hurried but hesitant at the same time. Kazuki read the letter over again. Why did he only mention this now? He scrambled for his phone and called Rei, not even bothering to check the tracker he’d set up. It rang twice before he heard a noise coming from Rei’s room. With quick strides, Kazuki ran to the room, flinging the door open to find… the bed made and Rei’s phone left on the pillow. He let his hand slowly drop away as Rei’s voicemail message played. He’d thought of everything. Kazuki didn’t know what to do with himself. Should he try to find him? Hack his computer? Or maybe-
“PAPA KAZUKI!!”
His head shot up. Miri. Kazuki ended the call that was still ongoing.
“Coming, Miri!”
